Fall Game 1 Recap: 2-3 L to Tri-State Truckers

Tough night last week with a loss to the Tri-State Truckers. They have a couple of new bodies on the team but their skilled guys are mostly the same. We only had 5 skaters and after almost 2 months off for most of us, our legs held up surprisingly well.

They scored an early goal on a shot stuffed home in the front, then a one timer in the second period. We struggled for shots in the first period and took a few bad penalties but eventually got on the board with a long breakout pass from Carmen to Matt. Eric later stuffed one home on a fluttering shot from the side that found net. I benefited from a handful of posts and a handful of saves that surprised even me. Ultimately, they snuck in a goal with 6 minutes left that went just inside the far post. Not a bad start to the season, but a win might have been possible with a full squad.

Playoff Victory!

Keeping the streak alive with a 6-4 Playoff win despite myself feeling under the weather. Way to pick me up, fellas!

And now on to the photos from last week... I can crop and zoom on anything you see. Just let me know the image number and I'll get it to you. I can also burn a copy of the disc for everyone on the team if you like. The full group of pictures is here, but I've pulled out a handful of random ones below.

End of Season, 3rd Place?

Well, fellas... a big finish to the season seems to have led us to a 4-6 record and a 3rd place finish! The only way we don't finish in 3rd is if Tri-State Truckers rolled over for Warwick Tavern tonight in the 10pm game. That doesn't seem likely, but in that case, we'd be the 4 seed.

No time is set for next week's game, but if everything goes the way we predict, 3 should face 6, 4 should face 5. That means a matchup against the Bullies who we just smoked last week.

Way to finish strong! 3 consecutive games with no penalties, some nice scoring totals, and solid defense that helped me drop the GAA well below 4! We finished with a solid +3 in the Plus/Minus as a team.

Tough Loss

Heads up, fellas... Those two teams have been two of the best in the league for the past two seasons. Both of the teams before us looked a notch lower and the late team we haven't seen looked like a group of 14 year olds.

My one observation... Let's use our excess of offensemen to our advantage and go balls out in two way hockey while we're out there in some quick, fast shifts. This league has a lot of speed in it and we need those fresh legs out there just to keep up. Those guys worked everything from the point and they did it well. Those kind of teams require our offensemen to get back into the play more than ever. I'll be the first guy to tell you that if a shooter from the point has all day to let a shot rip, chances are he'll find an opening somewhere. That's why there aren't many 5'5" goalies out there! A few less errant passes and a little more pressure on the shooter and we're right there! Keep your heads up!

Anyone else have anything?

Mask Progress

Sanded down the gel coat and found all the dings and scratches from you assholes hitting me in the head! Then I filled everything in with some fiberglass resin, layed down some high build primer, and wet sanded smooth. House of Kolor paint should be here on the 16th!

End of Season Party

Most of you know by now, but our loss to Steel Wheels was avenged by The Knights (who we would have crushed in the finals). Steel Wheels lost 7-6 in OT on Monday and then got smoked last night.

But since we did finish the season with a very solid 10-0, Izzy wants to have an end of season get together at his place in Franklinville. More details will come, but for now I want everyone to answer the poll on the right to see if they can make it on January 7th. Probably something like 4 or 5pm until the keg runs dry...

Vote on the right!
